Termites: There are seven families and approximately 2500 species of termites worldwide. (Waller and La Fage 1987)

Termites can also be grouped into four general excological types (Nutting and Jones 1990) which are based on where they live and food they consume.

Ecological groupings of termites are: dry wood, damp wood, harvester, and subteranean.

Termite infestation could mean financial ruin for homeowners. On the other hand, it is a very favorable condition for forest ecosystems because termites are involved in nutrient cycling.

Fire Ants cause serious medical, agricultural and property damage. The RIFA is very aggressive and will sting repeatedly, especially when their colony/mound is disturbed.

Fire ants typically nest outdoors in sunny areas of exposed soil or lawns. If untreated, fire ant infestations may reach 30-100 single-queen mounds per acre, containing up to 80,000 ants. When disturbed, fire ant workers pour out of their mound and aggressively attack the offender.

Chemical applied as a broadcast treatment will control fire ants for up to one year. Some chemicals may take several weeks, so early-season application (November-February) is recommended. In-season (when mounds are active), a combination treatment of Fire Ant Killer Bait provides fast knockdown and long-term control.

Once termites are found preventitive maintenance is the best way to keep termites from re-appearing.

Chemical Treatment can consist of liquid pesticide or a Baiting System.

The best non-repellant that kills termites is the best.

The purpose of the liquid pesticide is to provide a continuous chemical barrier around the home preventing termites from penetrating the treated soil where the termites are either repelled or killed. A typical barrier treatment may involve several gallons of chemicals.

The Bait System requires food, wood or paper to be put in a tube and inserted below the ground at 10-15 foot intervals around the home. The station is monitored on average once a month or quarterly. If termites are found, a slow acting poison is placed in the tube and trailed to the colony.

There are several species of Cockroach. Many are not native to North America, however, they were introduced into the States by ships, produce, and luggage.

Cockroaches enter structures by being brought in, coming up from the sewer system via drains, or occasional mass migration from other structures, dumps etc., during warm weather.

Depending on the species, cockroaches feed on most any foods, especially fermenting food, some species snack on fruit, decaying plants, some will even prefer, paper and glue products

Roaches will sometimes enter homes for the warmth. They prefer to hide behind, under, and in things. If you see a roach, try to contain it (container) for proper identification so proper treatment can be applied. There are several methods for treatment. We would be happy to identify and De-bug your home of this critter.
